College Advocacy (Survival) Training
Advocating for yourself is a valuable skill for every student, especially those struggling with a learning disability in the classroom.  But what happens when your student is headed off to college?  Suddenly it becomes a reality that the Team Meeting, the IEP reviews, the parent input is all gone, and your student is on his or her own.

St. Louis LDA special educators conduct one-on-one College Advocacy Training series for students heading off to college.  Meeting twice a week and depending on the individual needs of the student, the series lasts six (6) or eight (8) weeks.

Topics of discussion include:
  • Student's diagnostic report (if there is one)
  • Individual learning style
  • Executive functioning Skills
  • How learning style can impact the classroom
  • Differences between high school and college
  • Preparing to be an independent learner
  • Strategies for self-advocacy with teachers and the Disability Coordinator
  • Organization and Study Skills
