What makes your tutoring program special?
All LDA tutoring staff have degrees in special education, are certified by the State of Missouri to teach special education, and work one-on-one with children we serve. LDA staff are all trained professionals.
What criteria are used to see if my child is appropriate for your program?
Your child's information is reviewed by LDA's Executive Director and Tutoring Coordinator to make sure he or she will benefit from our tutoring program. All children must have an average to above average intelligence rating or higher to be successful, and must be considered in the mild to moderate range of disability.
What is the procedure for placing my child in the tutoring program?
Once all documentation is provided and reviewed by LDA, your child is placed with a tutor that has strengths that match those of the child.
Why do you recommend tutoring two times a week? Can I have my child tutored just once a week?
Children with specific learning and attention problems will need assistance more than one time per week to stay on track. Our program is set up for two times per week to help your child reach his or her optimum success rate.
Why do you need such advance notice of an absence?
If a tutor comes into our office for specifically for your child, a fee will have to be charged to you. Each tutor's schedule needs to be rearranged when any student is absent, and it takes time to reach other parents about the change.
If my child is getting tutoring for homework support, why should I bring him/her for tutoring when he/she doesn't have any homework that day?
Our tutoring staff uses your child's specific curriculum to teach remediation skills. Even though there is no homework on a given evening, organization and study skills can still be taught through the curriculum. In addition, help in math and written expression can be reinforced during these times. It is LDA's goal to help your child learn to be successful so that he or she is able to transfer over the skills being learned to the classroom in order to become an independent learner.
My child has missed a lot of tutoring sessions. Will he/she be dropped from the program? Why?
Unless there are extenuating circumstances, your child will be dropped from the program for excessive absences. It is LDA's policy to help as many children as possible.
