When learning basic skills in grade school or middle school, a learning disability can seem like a curse to many children like Sarah. She had trouble focusing and was not succeeding in school. Her ADHD and mild dyslexia made simple tasks like reading aloud seem like an insurmountable challenge. She was the butt of other children’s jokes by the second grade because of her atrocious spelling and tendency to not sit still. Sarah’s family and teachers were struggling to help her, but nothing was working. Finally, another parent told them to call LDA, and we jumped to action.
We know that no two children are alike, and our experts do not teach any two children in the exact same way. One of the LDA specialists went into Sarah’s school on an on-going basis to work with her teachers to help them understand her learning needs. She also attended tutoring here at LDA with a specialist. Today, she is a thriving honors student at a local high school and she attributes her academic success to the St. Louis LDA. It’s amazing to see the difference we can make with your help and our devoted staff.
More than 63,000 children in Missouri have diagnosed learning problems. The St. Louis LDA unlocks the potential of children who learn differently by working with them, their parents and their schools to find new ways to approach learning that will lead to success. Through LDA’s Early Childhood Program, we even work with the youngest learners to help identify those children at risk for potential problems. Simply put, LDA helps kids learn!
We are reaching out to our friends to help our children who struggle to learn. We all know that these are very trying times economically, but we hope that this year you will consider making a gift to help children like Sarah. Your contribution supports our scholarship efforts for children with all types of learning issues here at LDA. Help us reach kids through our One-on-One Tutoring, Early Childhood Intervention, Family Consultation, Crisis Intervention, our workshops for parents and teachers and our testing programs.
On behalf of all the children and families we serve (more than 21,000 people came to LDA last year for help), we thank you for your consideration and hope to hear from you in the near future. Last year we offered more than $303,000 in free and reduced services to the community. Together we can make a difference in the lives of many children, and we hope we can count on your generosity this year!
Warmest regards,

Executive Director
